Century Tuna Bloggers’ Cook-off

Cuatro Cantos

Me and my family were at the Century Corned Tuna Cook-off for bloggers yesterday. Our friend and big time blogger Abe Olandres actually forwarded the invite to us. Thanks Abe! Century Tuna is a staple in our weekly menu. Our family loves Century Tuna Lite, Century Tuna in Brine and with Calamansi variants. I also like the Century Bangus with Tausi. So you could just imagine how excited I was to attend this event.

It was a Saturday morning, I checked my mails after breakfast when I saw the email from Abe. I texted April of Havoc Digital (they are the ones promoting the event) and asked if we can still attend the event. When she replied yes, I finished all my chores and prepared to leave the house. The event was 3 in the afternoon at The Stock Market in Bonifacio High Street, The Fort, Global City in Taguig.

We got there around 3:30 PM already but its a good thing that the cook-off has not yet started. After being seated, I left the kids to Aldrin and took pictures with my handy Nokia phone.

Sam my pretty daughter was thrilled to see chef Rosebud Benitez of QuickFire (”10-min kitchen wonders”, as Sam would say) in person. Too bad we didn’t get the chance to have a picture of her and Sam taken. (sana next time!) She and JM Rodriguez, one of the country’s talented theater actors are hosting the event. Century Tuna Superbods winners Van Victor Leano, Theresa Marie Fenger, Rey Talosig and Cherry Ann Kubota also graced the event.

The cook-off event was specially organized for bloggers as a way of promoting Century’s new tuna product, the Century Corned tuna which actually endorsed by hunk Derek Ramsey.

There are 2 teams composed of bloggers and chef adviser. Teams prepared 2 dishes, an appetizer and a main dish within a given time limit. (I think its an hour) and the team who prepares their dishes using the corned tuna in a unique delicious way wins the cook-off. I did not join the cook-off (I was shy) but i enjoyed taking pictures and doing some food tasting.

While the bloggers are busy preparing their dishes, there were games for the audience and Chef Rosebud and JM were very entertaining hosts. The dishes prepared by Team A were Century Corned Tuna in Fusili pasta and Century Corned Tuna canapes</em>. Team B prepared Pita bread with Century corned tuna with Pear salsa and Century Corned Tuna in pasta with Almonds. The dishes were all delicious but I’d have to say that my favorite is the pasta dish with almonds, the taste is unique and I like the crunch of the almonds in the pasta.

I will definitely try to recreate the recipes! (if I can figure out the ingredients) The event ended with the announcement of the winners, Team B won! and with a very sumptuous dinner courtesy of The Stock Market. Yummy! I must say the event was a success! Back in our table, I hear the promoters saying that mall cook-offs would definitely be a success as well.

Here are some more pictures from the event. Thanks Century Tuna and more power!
